Founded in 1962 by Ronald P. Kelly primarily as a tax practice, the firm has grown to three partners and six year-round professional staff members.  We offer a broad range of services from accounting and tax preparation to payroll services, as well as business valuation and financial services for both individuals and businesses.  At Kelly, Sparber, White & Associates, LLC, we strive to provide you with prompt, quality service.

Ronald P. Kelly – Retired Partner

Ron, founder of the firm in 1962, has over 40 years of tax experience. Prior to his official retirement, he was an Accredited Tax Advisor and an Enrolled Agent with the Internal Revenue Service. Ron remains active with the firm on a consulting basis.

D. Edward Sparber, CPA, CFP™ – Retired Partner

A Certified Public Accountant and Financial Planner, Ed specializes in complex tax issues, as well as financial and estate planning.  Ed graduated from Waynesburg College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.  Before joining Kelly, Sparber, White & Associates, LLC in 1982, he worked for the "Big-Eight" accounting firm Arthur Young & Co.  Ed also was a controller in industry, and has over 45 years of experience.

Ed received his CPA license in 1964 and was a CFP from 1988 to 2008. He is a lifetime member of The Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is active in several community organizations. Ed retired from the day-to-day operation of the firm as of January 1, 2008 but remains active on a consulting basis.

Maryann White, CPA, ABV – Partner

Maryann joined the firm in 2001 and became a member/partner in 2003.  She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown with a Bachelor of Arts in Business/Economics with a dual concentration in Accounting and Finance.  She is a Certified Public Accountant and is Accredited in Business Valuation. Prior to joining the firm, she worked for the "Big-Eight" accounting firm, Price Waterhouse and also Clifton Gunderson LLP, the 11th largest public accounting firm in the country, where she specialized in business valuation.

Maryann received her CPA in 1991 and became accredited in business valuation in 2000. She is also a member of the Institute of Business Appraisers, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants where she serves on the Executive Committee.

Maryann specializes in the valuation of small, closely-held businesses for purposes of mergers/acquisitions, estate and gift taxes, succession planning, shareholder transactions, and divorce.  She has qualified as an expert witness in Westmoreland, Indiana, Fayette, and Cambria counties.  Maryann also specializes in taxes and business planning.

Maryann serves as treasurer for the Latrobe Area Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Accounting Alumni Advisory Board, the Rotary Club of Latrobe, and InWestmoreland Networkers.

Maryanne Novotny-Sowinski, CPA – Manager

Maryanne is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor with over 19 years of experience in public accounting. Maryanne, who joined the firm in 2007, specializes in income tax preparation for both businesses and individuals and in QuickBooks consulting, including setup, training, and ongoing support.

Jennifer Brewer – Payroll Specialist

Jennifer joined the firm as a payroll specialist in 1996.  She graduated from Westmoreland County Community College with an Associate's degree in Secretarial Science and Office Management.  She has over 11 years of payroll and accounting experience.  In addition to providing payroll services, Jennifer also performs the accounts payable function for many of our clients.

Jennifer is pursuing the Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation and is a member of the American Payroll Association.

Jason Burkey – Staff Accountant

Jason holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Pittsburgh. He has over 10 years of experience in financial services including individual income tax preparation, tax planning, audit representation, business tax reporting, and preparation of financial statements. Jason has been with the firm since the beginning of 2008 and is currently working towards an Associate's degree in Accounting.

Donald O'Toole – Staff Accountant

Don joined the firm in 2008, bringing with him over 27 years of experience in accounting. He earned an Associate's degree from the Community College of Allegheny County and has completed course work in Business Administration at Robert Morris College. Don has performed a variety of accounting functions including preparation, reporting and analysis of financial statements, and supervision of accounts payable and receivable.

Christine Weise – Staff Accountant

Chris graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration. She has been with the firm since early 2008 and has over 15 years of experience in small business management. Chris assists with tax compliance and reporting, accounting, budgeting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and preparation of monthly financial statements.

Nikki Hilpert – Office Manager

Nikki joined the firm in 1998.  She has over 18 years of office management and accounting experience through her employment with our firm, in addition to several local attorneys.
